Anne Barton     Historical Romance
Midnight Promises - 2008 Golden Heart Finalist
Amelia Wimple is an almost-on-the-shelf heiress who was stood up at her own engagement
ball when her betrothed eloped with another (alas, thinner!) woman.  She's content to
cloister herself in her Mayfair townhouse with her beloved gossip rags until the night Lord
Craven, London's most notorious rake and best friend to the man who jilted her, shows up
on her doorstep.  He's not there by choice, however; he's rather on the brink of death.  As
Amelia plays nursemaid to Craven, her well-laid plans for protecting her heart go awry.  To
keep herself from falling for him, she begins enumerating "Advantages of the Unmarried
State" on a scrap of paper she affectionately refers to as "The List."

Craven fears his friends are right: maybe he's incapable of love.  In any case, Amelia is far
too kind and much too innocent for his tastes.  Or so he thinks.  Once Craven identifies the
tender, gut-wrenching emotion he feels for her, he'll do whatever it takes to make her his.
A half brother - who Craven never knew he had, but who bears a striking resemblance to
him - makes it hard for Craven to earn Amelia's trust.  He'll have to use every one of his
considerable charms to convince her to a
bandon her exasperating List and take a chance on
love.
